COMMUNITY IS EVERYTHINGOUR STORY
Robin's mother worked two jobs to support her family and during that time, a family friend and a “man of the Lord" saw potential in Robin after taking him to the driving range at the age of 11. It was also at age 11 that Robin came to Christ.
Though Robin's family could not afford a golf membership, let alone course time, his passion for the game opened up doors to mentors and opportunities to continue his play and by 8th grade he was already playing on the Varsity team. Robin's Varsity golf coach also helped him navigate being a Christian and a good man. He was also knowledgeable on the college recruitment process. "Without him, I don't think I would have had the chance to get recruited by the University of South Carolina. My family and I were clueless," Robin remarks.
Later in life, Robin was working as the head professional at a small public golf course. “I kept watching qualified players get overlooked by college programs. That's where this vision for Before the Links began. I wanted every kid to have a chance like I did to get the opportunity and the exposure needed to play golf in college."
Over the years, Robin realized that his success as an entrepreneur, corporate leader, and golf industry leader could be attributed to his depth of experience in playing golf. "I was giving golf lessons to many C-Suite executives. They saw the importance of golf as a means to building relationships in the corporate world."
Throughout these experiences, Robin formed a clear mission and vision for Before the Links. "We exist to provide high-level junior golfers with the resources needed to join a college golf program, while guiding them through a Christ-driven corporate leadership development program. We can help teach young golfers to leverage their faith, golf skills and learn leadership skills to succeed in college and beyond in the corporate world."
